John McCoy, a noted New York Creative Director and Designer, equipped with a wealth of knowledge and experience, heads up Pointhaus, Inc.
He began his career in 1976 as Art Director for BBD&O. There, he worked on the accounts of Quaker Products (Life Cereal/”Hey Mikey”), Thom McAn (“Be a Thom Girl”), Gillette, General Electric and Du Pont. After a stay of several years producing advertising for television and print, he felt the need to venture further into the areas of graphic design and branding. He soon landed a job as Design Director for Murtha, DeSola, Finsilver and Fiore where he produced corporate identity and packaging. Mr. McCoy was responsible for bringing to light the branding and identities of such companies as Occidental Chemical, the name change and identity of Datsun Automobiles to Nissan, as well as various graphic design and package designs including those for 7-up and Post Cereals “Fruit & Fibre.”
Dwelling deeper into the depth of advertising, graphic design and branding, John soon found an exciting opportunity with ABC Television. There he produced both on-air advertising and graphic design, as well as printed collateral and promotional materials. Having established a name for himself in this area of the industry, he was courted by Warner-Amex—a joint venture between Warner Communications and American Express, and was asked to act as Creative director for their new art department. Little did he know at the time, but his promotion and work was to be part of something quite extraordinary. Acting as Creative Director, John was instrumental in the design and branding of MTV as well as Nickelodeon.
Later, John McCoy found himself as Art Director for Ruder, Finn and Rotman Public Relations—one of the largest independent public relations firms. While working there, and handling many of the duties of running the art department, John was responsible for the accounts and image of The American Stock Exchange, National Distillers, T-Bar and Schenley Imports (including Cocktails for Two, Dewar’s Scotch Whisky and MacNaughton’s Canadian Whisky).
Today, putting his talents behind Pointhaus, satisfied clientele include, Hitachi, Minolta, The Commodity Exchange, Emcore, Bertram Laboratories, Chemetal, ETEC and Applied Materials to name a few.
Mr. McCoy’s work and attention to detail in producing advertising, graphic design, branding, image and capabilities brochures, annual reports, corporate identity, illustration and photography has won a wealth of awards including those from the American Advertising Federation (Addys), Chester Awards, Big W, as well as awards from the printing, television and radio industry.
Isn't it time, you got to the point?
